The results are in! Students from St. Frances of Assisi School in Gates Mills, Ohio, and Advanced Technology Academy in Dearborn, Michigan, took top honors in this year’s Adventures in Health Science and Medicine (AHSM)® Innovation Challenge.

AHSM® is a series of Connected Learning experiences designed to promote learning about health science and medical professions for middle school students. Offered via interactive, web conferencing presentations, each hour-long session includes: an ongoing case study, hands-on activities, and collaborative discussions facilitated by Cleveland Clinic caregivers.

The program culminates with an Innovation Challenge where students work with their peers to apply their learning in the development of a new health science or medical innovation. The students then present their innovations to their peers in an online webinar.

This year, AHSM® Innovator teams from eight middle schools participated in the Challenge as both presenters and judges, using a rubric to score their peers’ presentations on originality, innovative thinking, and feasibility.  The students then entered their rubric scores into an online poll, which instantly tabulated the two teams with the highest scores.  The competition was close, but St. Frances of Assisi School and Advanced Technology Academy edged out the other teams to win top honors!

Government & Community Relations’ Civic Education Department would like to congratulate all of the schools that participated:
