Abstract: Prior research discloses that the majority of adults read at or below an 8th grade level, yet most medical information is written at a 10th grade level. This results in an overall lack of patient comprehension, which can have a variety of negative outcomes. Current patient education material for colonoscopy preparation is wordy, repetitive, and often confusing for many patients. As a result of this project’s research, I created a pamphlet of simplified information to aid patient comprehension and reduce potential cancellations or complications with the procedure.
