Be Still My Beating Heart

Anna Hertelendy

eXpressions® Program: Art School: Magnificat High School City/State: Rocky River, Ohio Teacher(s): Julie Belfiore Medium/Genre: Mixed-Media eXhibition Year: 2019
eXpressionist Statement:

My project focuses on the importance of having the proper surgical tools for different cardiac surgeries. Shuffer’s project discusses the importance of keeping a detailed and updated inventory of the tools needed for cardiac surgeries. In my piece, I have a heart in the middle of the frame. One side is clean and shining while the other is eroding and dying. On the clean side of the heart I have all the proper surgical tools to show that when good inventory is kept, hearts can be saved. The other side, which is eroding, has non-medical tools, showing that if inventory is not up to date and is missing the proper tools for surgery, the heart will fail because improper tools cannot help.
