Abstract: |
The use of antibiotics right after birth has become a standard practice to help decrease sepsis in neonates whose mothers were diagnosed with chorioamnionitis. Though the antibiotics can have benefits, there are many disadvantages, like over-prescribing antibiotics. Many neonates are asymptomatic and show no signs of sepsis or any other health issues, but are still given antibiotics. Some issues that arise with the overuse of antibiotics are: high costs of medications, separation of mother and baby, allergic reactions to antibiotics, many IV sticks, and antibiotic resistance. The main objective of this project was to decrease the number of antibiotics administered to well neonates. |
